Texas Man Electrocuted By Low Hanging Powerline

April 24, 2012

recent study has shown that electrocution causes a significant number of on-the-job deaths in the United States. In fact, it’s the fifth leading cause of occupational injury deaths. The accidents have been determined to happen almost exclusively to men, with a large majority occurring in the south as weather begins to warm.

An accident Tuesday left a man hospitalized after he suffered an electric shock in McLennan County, Texas. Channel 25 News reports that the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Wolf Creek Road, about two miles outside the town of Lorena. Officers with the local police department say that the man was working on top of a shed at a local residence when he accidentally made contact with a live electrical wire dangling from above. Rescue crews were called to the scene, but The Heart of Texas Electrical Company had to shut power to the line off before paramedics could approach the man to load him onto a stretcher.

He has been taken to a local hospital to be examined for further injuries.

Common injuries resulting from an accident such as this include:

  • mild to severe burns,
  • cardiac and respiratory arrest,
  • and cognitive and neurological damage.

The Texas Burn Injury Lawyers with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers specialize in electrical injuries and say that the most important thing to do if you or someone you know is electrocuted is to seek medical attention immediately by calling 911.

Home Explosion Kills One And Injures Another

January 10, 2012

A north Austin neighborhood was rocked early Monday morning by the fatal explosion of a home caused by a gas leak. According to KVUE News, the owner of the house, who was killed in the explosion, had complained to neighbors for several weeks about a gas odor in the home.

The explosion happened at around 8:30 AM Monday at the residence located on Payne Avenue. Neighbors say that they heard two explosions before the home was engulfed in flames. The home next door caught fire as well from the whipping flames next door, requiring paramedics to take the neighboring homeowner to the hospital to be treated for critical respiratory injuries.

Once the fire burned out, firefighters were able to discover the body of a man on the front porch and later confirmed it to be that of the home owner.

Investigators determined the fire was started by a gas leak and work has begun to find and fix the leak by this morning. In the meantime, 15 homes have been evacuated in order to prevent any similar accidents. Texas Gas Service, who operates the leaking lines, have taken responsibility for the explosion and are putting up evacuated residents in a nearby hotel until the matter can be resolved.

The Texas wrongful death attorneys with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers say that being able to prove fault in a wrongful death case is vital. If you have lost a loved one in an accident that was not their fault and feel you have proof as well, contact us today to discuss your case further.

Bastrop Residents and Officials Rebuild After Wildfires

September 27, 2011

In the wake of the Bastrop wildfires that burned thousands of acres, destroyed 1,600 structures, and killed two people just weeks ago, residents and government officials are working to put the area back together.

Several Bastrop residents have come together and filed a lawsuit against Bluebonnet Electric, saying they are responsible for untrimmed trees that sparked the fire. KVUE News reports that the Texas Forest Service officials determined that two untrimmed trees were blown into power lines by high winds, sparking two separate fires that would eventually merge together. Attorneys representing the three victims whose homes were destroyed stated in the claim that based on a similar 2009 case, in which the company was sued over a tree that sparked a fire, the company should have had reasonable foresight to cut the trees and could have prevented the fire. The company has denied responsibility and has several days to respond to the suit.

In order to prevent similar catastrophes from occurring in their town, firefighters and Texas Forest Service officials visited with residents of Leander, Texas, to educate them on how to protect the homes form wild fires. According to KVUE News, they discussed with citizens how to trim vegetation back form their homes and gave several other tips on how to fix potential fire hazards.

The Texas fire that took the man’s life occurred on East Avenue.

The Texas fire victim was found in another part of the home near the kitchen when firefighters arrived at the home which was ablaze.
