Numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that in 2011, a total of 15 percent of all workplace fatalities were the result of contact with objects or equipment on a job site. Such an incident resulted in a worker sustaining a fatal Austin Construction Accident Injury last week.
Reports from KVUE News indicate the accident happened at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, near the intersection of State Highway 71 and Pedernales Canyon Trail near the town of Lakeway in Travis County.
A spokesperson for the Austin-Travis County EMS explained the victim was working near a construction vehicle when the piece of equipment overturned on top of the man. The victim was pinned underneath the equipment until rescue crews arrived at the scene. By the time they were able to pull the man to safety, he had already perished.
This was the second accident of its kind in the area within the last month. On May 9, a trencher rolled down a hill near the 360 Loop and landed on top of a 37-year-old worker. The collision claimed the victim’s life.
