A Texas wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by a woman that claims excessive force in the shooting death of her son by Texas police officers in 2006, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported.

The Texas wrongful death occurred in September 2006 when police officers responded to a call for domestic disturbance at the woman’s son’s residence.

Her son refused to drop the knife he was carrying at the request of the police officers when they arrived to investigate the call.  Police fired a shot, hitting the man in the chest.

He died later at the hospital as a result of Texas gunshot injury.

The Texas wrongful death suit names police officers who responded to the 2006 call, the police chief, and the mayor.
