When a safety issue is discovered with a part on a vehicle, the vehicle’s manufacturer is responsible for making the necessary repairs to ensure the vehicle safe to drive. Unfortunately, the car product liability lawyers with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers explain that the actions they take are often not enough.
Take for instance the recent worries regarding the corrective action Chrysler took when it came to light that gas tanks on certain Jeep models were unsafe. According to an article from CBS-DFW News, experts say the company’s actions haven’t improved vehicle safety.
In 2013, Chrysler recalled approximately 1.5 million vehicles due to the risk of a gas tank rupture in the event of a rear-end collision. These ruptures could result in massive fires and vehicle explosions. At least 50 people have died as a result of the defective gas tanks.
To correct the issue, Chrysler installed specialized trailer hitches on affected vehicles. However, some believe the hitch doesn’t fully protect the tank from rupturing. Furthermore, very few of the affected vehicles were repaired.
