A 63-year-old woman has died as the result of Texas Dog Bite Injuries she sustained during an attack that occurred yesterday. The incident happened at a home in the Woodland Hills subdivision in Dayton, Texas.
KBTX News indicated that the victim’s dog was outside when a stray canine made its way into the enclosed backyard and attacked the other canine. The victim then came outside in an attempt to rescue her animal from the stray, but was attacked herself. She made it back inside the home, where she then called her husband for assistance. He, in turn, then called the police to the scene.
When officers arrived, they were met by the vicious stray and it attempted to attack officers. However, one of the responding officers shot the dog several times before it escaped from the scene.
Law enforcement then shifted its focus to helping the victim, who was found dead inside the home.
The incident highlights the importance of citizens needing to be more aware of how to handle stray dogs. Experts say never to approach or attempt to pet a strange animal. It is even more important to remember to never try to break up a dogfight.
