Motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of accidental death among children in America. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 650 children lost their lives and another 148,000 were injured as the result of car accidents in 2011 alone.

One of the best ways to keep our children safe on the road is the use of safety or booster seat systems. Studies indicate use of these devices can reduce the chances of injury or death in the event of crashes by as much as 54 percent.

It’s important for caregivers and parents to properly utilize safety and booster seats for them to be effective during Texas car accidents. Adults should also inspect seats to ensure they have not passed their expiration dates and are not subject to safety recalls.

Safety or booster seats also must be properly installed in vehicles to ensure they offer proper protection. Even if you think you have your child’s seat properly installed, it can be beneficial to have it checked by a professional. Research has shown that as many as 9 out of 10 parents install child car seats incorrectly.

The next opportunity for a child safety seat inspection comes this Saturday. The Bryan-College Station personal injury attorneys at Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers are hosting free child safety and booster seat inspections from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 20 at the Bryan Town Center.

Feel free to come out to make sure your children are as safe as possible each time they ride in the car.
