The Republic Of Texas Motorcycle Rally led to a large number of motorcycle accidents in the Austin, Texas area. According to KVUE News, 29 crashes were reported, resulting in 16 serious injuries and three deaths.
One of the most serious accidents involved a 64-year-old man being ejected from his bike during a crash on Highway 290 and falling off of a flyover. Austin Police say the accident happened Friday afternoon when the biker hit a guardrail and fell nearly 30 feet to his death. Investigators are still looking into why the man may have lost control of the machine and are asking witnesses to come forward.
On Saturday, another biker died on W. Koenig Lane. The 44-year-old man was attempting to make a left turn, but had forgotten to put his kickstand up. The stand dragged across the asphalt causing the bike to topple and eject the rider.
Despite several deaths occurring during the rally, the Austin Police Department was happy to announce that no motorcyclists were arrested for drinking and driving over the weekend where a total of 51 DWI arrests were made.
The Austin Personal Injury Lawyers with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers would like to send their condolences to the families of the bikers who were killed over the weekend. The firm would also like to remind bikers of the importance of preventing Texas Motorcycle Accident injuries by always wearing a helmet and protective gear.
