Last Saturday, more than 104,000 fans showed up for Texas A&M University’s home game. While this time of year can be a great way to enjoy a game and time with friends and family, traffic around these events can be congested to say the least. This can put attendees at an increased risk of car accidents.

To help avoid College Station car accidents on game days, the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) developed a plan to help ease the flow of traffic around the stadium on game day, but there were some problems identified on Saturday.

An article from KBTX News explains several attendees noted traffic problems before and after the game. One of the worst areas was Holleman between Wellborn and 2818. To help alleviate the problem, the TTI has developed a smartphone app that provides traffic updates in real time. The organization also plans to make changes to the light patterns at certain intersections before the next game.

Other ways you and your loved ones can stay safe on game day include:

  • Arriving Early– Beat traffic by leaving home as early as possible and plan to tailgate before the game.
  • Using Destination AggieLand– The app can help guide you to the route with the least amount of traffic.
  • Being Vigilant– Many obstacles can come up when in traffic around the stadium, so keep your eyes on the road to avoid an accident.
  • Being Patient– Accidents happen when drivers are in a hurry, so slow down, buckle up, and give other motorists and pedestrians plenty of space.
  • Driving Sober– Alcohol is a contributing factor in one-third of all fatal crashes and is rampantly accessible at football games for those who are of age. Do your part to stay safe by not getting behind the wheel after drinking.

The College Station personal injury attorneys with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers hope this information helps to keep you safe on game day.
