What you need to know about Zantac

Ranitidine, marketed under the trade name Zantac, is a drug that is used in the treatment of intestinal and stomach ulcers.

In Septermber2019, the FDA was informed by Valisure that a cancer-causing chemical known as Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) has been found in several batches of Zantac. As a result, retailers pulled the drug from their shelves. Sanofi, the manufacturer of Zantac recalled the drug. After the FDA did its test, it established that although the levels of NDMA in Zantac were not as high as Valisure had reported, the levels of the carcinogen in the drug were unacceptable.

Since NDMA was found in Zantac, numerous lawsuits have been filed against ranitidine manufacturers by people who developed cancer after years of using the drug.
